Chair for a Guest - Milena Dopitova - Everything Returns because It Wanders
From the early 1990s, Milena Dopitová specializes in video, photography, objects and installations, often dealing with intimate subjects related to human identity. The artist opens and explores them with the curiosity of someone unafraid to work with his or her own interpretations and reflections. She presents various life stages, events and emotions – like maturing, growing old, death, uncertainty, cruelty, violence and other subjects – with her own, very personal input but at the same time allows us to observe them as incorporated to social and societal relations and networks. Whether she treats them via a monumental installation, an object or a video, she is always able to capture the viewers’ interest due to her authentic approach to an ambiguously accepted subject. Dopitová’s works open more or less taboo subjects, challenging wide scale of interpretations. Milena Dopitová graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1986–94) and has exhibited both in the Czech Republic and abroad since the early 1990s. Her works are part of many museum collections all over the world. Presently, she also lectures as professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design and at the Plzeň Art and Design School with the West Bohemian University. This time, the program “Chair for a Guest” presents works illustrating the most significant subjects of Dopitová’s work and the artist will personally comment on each of them. She is at the same time ready to answer your questions. The discussion is accompanied by visual and video documentation. The cycle is prepared and moderated by Ondřej Horák. MeetFactory is supported by a grant provided by the City of Prague. MeetFactory Ke Sklárně 15 150 00 Prague 5 www.meetfactory.cz The next guests of the program: M. Pěchouček (March) V.
