Artwall Gallery in Prague - 2009
The Center for Contemporary Arts Prague o.p.s. announces competition for four exhibition projects intended for the 5th year of the Artwall Gallery. From 2005, the gallery had a unique space of frames on the supporting wall of the Letenské Parks on the embankment of Cpt. Jaroš and Edvard Beneš at disposal. Last year, the Municipal Government of the City of Prague withdrew from the contract of loan in response to the exhibition “Collective Identity” by the Guma Guar art group, organized in the framework of the Artwall Gallery (see www.artwall.cz), by which it basically liquidated the gallery. The Center for Contemporary Arts presently tries to restore the gallery’s activity. If we succeed we again plan to install exhibition projects from May to autumn 2009 in the same space. The motto of this year is, equally as in 2008, Vox Populi. This subject departs from the character of the site whose dominant position guarantees effective and, in a way, authoritative communication with the public. The “voice of people” which in past served to both democratic and demagogic goals, undergoes critical analysis in the framework of the Vox Populi project – equally as does the position of an artist entering into confrontation with a public space. The thunderous reactions to the “Collective Identity” exhibition make us believe that this subject can address a wide spectrum of viewers, and thus to support penetrating contemporary art into the social awareness. The materials for the competition should have the form of seven vertically oriented images which would provide enough eloquent information on the character of the intended project. Selected proposals with be realized in the form of large-dimensional prints on foil in the size of c. 400 x 210 cm (exact dimensions of the individual frames will be nailed down on request). Please send the proposals and the brief description of your project in the jpg or pdf format to e-mail zuzana.stefkova@fcca.cz to 28 February 2009.
