The winner of the contest for the realization of the Czech pavilion at the next Expo - Expo Shanghai 2010
The winner of the contest for the realization of the Czech pavilion at the next Expo in the Chinese city of Shanghai, held under the title “Better City – Better Life”, is the design of the Czech company Film Dekor which was selected out of the nine accepted designs. Its proposal was based on the finalized construction offered by the Chinese part and it originates from the workshop of the famed SIAL studio, based in Liberec, headed by architect Jiří Buček. The author of the idea concept of the exhibition part is Lenka Lindaurová. The pavilion of simple geometric forms will have a façade decorated with a pattern copying the ground-plan of the Prague’s Old Town, whose outline will be traced by hockey pucks. Inside, visitors will stroll through a slightly undulated surface of faux grass. This surface will lack any imaginable barriers, except gigantic modules hanging down from the ceiling – a kind of a city inside a city. Some modules will hang as low as to the floor to define separate exhibitions focusing on particular subjects. The Expo Chancellor office voted for the sub-subject “Fruit of Civilization” whose symbolic will appear in the exhibition. The individual subjects – technology, energy, transportation, ecology and many others – will be dealt by leading Czech artists (among many other, David Černý, Federico Díaz, Jakub Nepraš, and Tomáš Džadoň). The multimedia display will be accompanied by special light effects, music and a long time span documentary.
