The Vladimír Skrepl Prize 2008
The unofficial prize, invented by young Czech artists, is based on the legacy of the older generation – especially in the way how the youngest artists themselves perceive their “teachers”. Last year, the price was received by Vladimír Skrepl himself from Jiří Kovanda and this year, he Skrepl personally handed it over to Adriena Šimotová. The latter artist was selected from the total of six nominees who also included Josef Bolf, Milena Dopitová, Igor Korpaczewski / KW, Ján Mančuška and Václav Stratil. Each of the one hundred critics, curators, publicists and artists from the whole of the Czech Republic, who have not reached the age limit of 35, nominated two names. The results were announced on 31 August in the Karlin Studios in Prague, and the event was also linked with announcing the results of the survey on the best solo and group exhibition of the year. The best exhibition was the biennial “Zvon [Bell]”, curated by Karel Císař, the worst exhibition was “Sexism”, curated by Pavel Humhal
