Architect Kaplický is nominated for Stirling Prize
The deceased architect has been nominated for a Stirling Prize for his design of the museum of the Ferrari automobile brand in Monza, Italy.
The prize which is awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is one of the most prestigious architectural awards. This year 43 works from Great Britain and 9 from the EU were selected.
The futurist yellow building in Monza which in itself unites an inspiration by sea fauna and fumes from sports cars, has Kaplický’s typical features of his construction approach. There are soft round shapes, distinct colors and aluminium passes.
Jan Kaplický didn’t live to see the museum completed. It was built based on his sketches by the architectural studio Shiro which is run by Andrea Morgante – one of the former employees of Kaplický’s firm Future Systems.
