Presentation of the First of the Five Finalists of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award
The premiere presentation of one of the five nominees for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, the artist Richard Nikl, will take place on May 30th, 2013 in Prague.
For the architectural model called Stavebnice (Building Set), which is this year's platform for the presentations of the five selected authors, the youngest of the five finalists Richard Nikl prepared a project called Two Pavilions. The whole event will take place at the Prague Alšovo Nábřeží near the Rudolfinum Gallery from 6 p.m.
Nikl divided an exhibition stall into two rooms. In one of them he became a curator of allied artists, inspiring colleagues and friends, in the other one he prepared his own installation connected with a screening. During the event the first auction of a tweet artist in the territory of the Czech Republic will take place.
Richard Nikl has been interested in Twitter, Facebook, social networks and the world of the Internet in the long term and they play a big role in his work. He is therefore classified as an “Internet artist“, which is, however, simplistic in many ways. Nikl's fine arts work is namely very remote to the classical “Internet art” that established itself at the turn of the 20th and 21st century. Nikl's art work combines a reflection of unimportance of authorship and originality, and emphasizes sharing, social relations, freedom from obligation and spontaneity.
