Brno's Wannieck Gallery Closes
The Wannieck Gallery, also know as Vaňkovka has closed.
Because of irregular rent payments the Brno company Jižní centrum Brno a.s. terminated the lease contract with the Wannieck Gallery in the middle of February. The representatives of the gallery paid the debt one day after the termination notice, however no progress was made afterwards and several negotiations ended in a stalemate. Miroslav Lekeš, the gallery operator, refused to sign an amendment to a new lease contract that more or less only postponed the eviction of the gallery to the end of 2013.
Wannieck Gallery therefore closed on April 2nd. The operators are not considering moving the collection to another place.
Brno is therefore losing one of its biggest attractions – at least in the field of culture. Wannieck Gallery was a prestigious gallery comparable to galleries abroad.
