Jakub Berdych and his new collections “Metamorphosis” and “BORN IT BROKEN“
Qubus Design studio presented Jakub Berdych's collection PROMĚNA (METAMORPHOSIS) at this year's Designblok.
It is a collection of vases from cut glass that got its name after Kafka's novel “Die Verwandlung” thanks to its absurdity and humor. The collection had its premiere at the beginning of summer this year within the Collectors' preview at the Křehký Mikulov art design festival.
Jakub Berdych presented also his collection BORN IT BROKEN. He created the broken and remelted vases during the fourth year of the Ekoglass Festival symposium that took place on both sides of the Czech-Polish border in Krkonoše and Jizerské hory this year.
“Similarly as with Metamorphosis they are recycled things that I didn't want to throw away. However, during their transformation I did not think at all about their design or use, they are objects in themselves. Through heat I just wanted to change their shape that I didn't like into a shape that I like,” the author says about his work.
