Swiss artist M. S. Bastian is a characteristic post-production artist focusing on visual signs of pop culture that seem to suit him well. In his own manner, he programs signs, figures, words and symbols, moving in and among them as on the world wide web – from one point to another, in the endless chain of possibilities, in the comfortable but at the same time a little neurotic culture of their use, in Flusser’s telematic company. This method allows him to avoid the traps of both excessive estheticism and the vacuous. His comics work is easily approachable for viewers and is also “digestibly” ironic. Works by Bastian are known on a European scale and today, mainly form part of private Swiss and German collections.
