Karel Vaca

Karel Vaca was Czech painter, graphic artist and stage designer, and member of the legendary art group Trasa (Route). He realized more than 870 stage designs and earned renown for numerous theater-production posters. From the 1960s, he became involved in painting on a constant basis. As a painter, Vaca expressed himself as harmonic colorist, and his paintings retained their communicative character even in the period when he switched to Abstraction. Vaca basically ceased exhibiting in the 1970s. Until today, his works however attract viewers due to their harmonious composition of color surfaces and their melancholy.
