The subject of the painting entitled On the Lap is closely linked with the ideology of human corporeality which, in classical modern opinion, was an expression of individual thought. The corporeality in this work is confronted with impersonal view of a kind of psychologically-pathological phenomena. The image at the same time bespeaks of the long way we have come from the classical portraiture that served to preserving memory to the contemporary uncertain visuality.
