Jindřich Halabala | Sideboard Tulip | UP Závody (The Associated Arts and Crafts Enterprises) | around 1930 | Wood | 91 x 127 x 63 cm | Functionalism | Modernism | Furniture | Antiques |
The sideboard, entitled “Tulip” due to its shape, probably ranks to the most elegant type of deposit furniture designed by Jindřich Halabala for the UP Enterprises in Brno. The sideboard rests on a gradating, ebonized base. The lower part follows into sides in a fluent arc, while the sides exceed the upper desk of black glass and are slightly bent outwards. The front side is formed by two-winged door. The entire surface of the sideboard is covered with a high-quality veneer (walnut). The item on display is a highly representative example of Czech Art Deco in the field of furniture production.
