The chair “Standard” was designed by Jean Prouvé in 1934. The designer employed a metal construction in a very original way. The rear legs, which carry most of the weight of the seated person, have a trapezoid profile whose upper part is connected with the backrest of oak plywood. The front legs, which carry less weight, are of thin steel tube. The seating part is formed by bent oak plywood. The chair is produced by Vitra in several color variants. The chair can be optimally combined with Prouvé’s tables of a similar construction; for example, the EM table “Guéridon”.
