The “Coconut Chair” was designed by George Nelson in 1955. As its name suggests, its form is reminiscent of a coconut cut into eight identical pieces. Vitra incorporated the chair into its 1957 program and re-incorporated it into its production plan in 1988. The body rests on four tube legs of chromium-plated steel reinforced with steel rods. The chair is made of varnished fiberglass shell, while the upholstering can be either fabric Hopsak or genuine leather in various color variants. An optimum accessory to the chair is the “Footstool” which can serve both for resting legs and for sitting.
