“Squirrel” ranks to the collection of money boxes designed by Maxim Velčovský for studio Qubus in 2005. Here, Velčovský again employed his favorite technique of re-design. He departed from a kitschy “vintage” sculpture of a squirrel sitting on its hind legs which he somewhat improved by an oblong slot situated on the figure’s back, thus transforming it into a money box. The price of the sculpture can be arbitrarily upped by inserting coins. The designer thus refers to the period when porcelain figures were worth a fortune and were thus affordable for only a limited stratum of people.
