Rudolf Kremlička

Rudolf Kremlička

Kremlicka ranks to the Czech avant-garde early 20th-century painters who left remarkable trace on art history by his unique figurative style. Initially influenced by the old-masters’ painting of his Czech predecessor, Hanuš Schwaiger, and the Netherlandish masters, he eventually arrived at his own concise style which he mainly developed in his figural compositions of women and dancers and in portraits. Kremlicka masterly fused the influences of Impressionism and Classicism and became a fav portrait painter during his lifetime. He was a member of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists, leaving it, however, in the 1930s. His oeuvre ultimately lived to see a new rediscovery and re-evaluation thanks to his extensive retrospect, organized in the Prague City Gallery in 2006.
