The figure of a swan is one of those designed by Jaroslav Ježek shortly after the success of his horse figures at the Expo 58 exhibition in Brussels. This period between 1958 and 1960 in Ježek’s oeuvre is characteristic of depicting strenuous motion and its transformation into a system of elegant curves as well as abstracting a figure from excessive details. The sculpture is executed without a base and features a swan in the stage of soar when the bird lifts off the water surface. As is suggested by the old sign Royal Dux, the figure was executed during the 1960s in the Duchcov porcelain factory. Besides the white variant, there also exists a less usual, black version.
