The sofa “La Chaise” can be today perceived as one of the first representatives of organic design. It was created by Charles & Ray Eames’ as early as in 1948 for a competition organized by the New York Museum of Modern Art. Vitra incorporated the item into its 1991 collection and has since been producing it in only a limited series. The construction, which was rather revolutionary in the time of its origin, is of white polyurethane and it rests on five slim steel legs set into a wooden, X-shaped base. The anatomically shaped form of “La Chaise” makes this piece suitable for both lying and sitting purposes.
