Antonín Kopp is member of a noticeable art group Pode Bal which focuses on political work. Kopp graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and is also involved in painting and interior design. His paintings are most often concentrated on the subject of art history – employing features that are characteristic for the famous classical artists, paraphrasing other works or directly appropriating them. On the other hand, Kopp handles them as if there were something of a historical ornament on which he demonstrates the power of emptied aesthetics. He freely plays with the abstractions by Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and Piet Mondrian, incorporating trade barcodes into their works. Kopp takes art history with humor and a pinch of salt. His canvases prove that if something of them remains for the future, it is nothing but their plain, unadorned beauty.
