Goldsheider Mask | Goldscheider (Vereinigte Ateliers für Kunst und Keramik) | 1925 - 1935 | Ceramic | 27 x 15 x 7 cm | Art Deco | Ceramics | manufacturer's trademark | Antiques |
The decorative mask, intended for hanging on a wall, is executed in high relief. Despite the heavy stylization, the face has European features but the incarnate is black for the sake of achieving a more distinct effect. The black is marvelously contrasted by the red lips and mainly by the turquoise-blue hair, eyes and eyebrows. The hair is adorned by a scarf of matt gold color which falls down and enwinds the neck in the front. As is suggested by both the printed and paper marks, the mask was produced by the famous Viennese company Goldscheider.
