Dominik Lang - “Spatial Geometry” | Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic | Galerie NF | 15/04 - 12/05/09
The exhibition of works by Dominik Lang, entitled “Spatial Geometry”, is a second exhibition project held in the newly established Gallery NF in Ústí nad Labem. The basic feature of the space is not just the aim of solely presenting comprehensive authorship projects but also eliminating the curatorship aspect in the exhibition traffic. This is based on the concept that each exhibiting artist has the task to select a next one to whom he or she would hand over the information about the new space as well as the term of the next exhibition.
Dominik Lang was selected by all those who initiated the foundation of the gallery and by the first exhibiting artists, Luděk Prošek and Eva Mráziková. Lang is a fresh graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and, during several recent years, has become a noticeable personality of the younger artistic generation. The main characteristic feature of his work is minute, often seemingly inconspicuous interventions into a common space. Lang very smartly, almost discreetly transforms various architectonic forms, breaking the boundaries between a gallery and a public space, and thus challenging the function of the very exhibition spaces. His interventions often disrupt the traditional relationship among an artist, a work of art and a viewer. Lang’s expressions thus may many times remain totally concealed to or misunderstood by an uninformed viewer. For the next exhibition term in Gallery NF, Dominik Lang addressed Markéta Othová.
