The rather intimate Timothy Taylor Gallery based in London, presents the most recent, highly sophisticated and experimental works by Ron Arad, some of which enjoy their public premiere. The exhibition will display Arad’s newest approach to his constantly developing re-discovery of the basic furniture – for example, the chairs “Thumbprint” and “Rom Gomli”. The glittery objects of bronze or steel rods, undulated by reflections of light of unusual colors, can almost be compared to jewels. Other exhibits are the unique sculptures “Bodyguards” and “Drunk Bodyguards” of highly polished and toned aluminum. These astonishing perforated objects as if evoked the impression of weightlessness which is, paradoxically, caused by their enormous mass.
The London exhibition “New Works” is indeed an interesting insight to the present oeuvre of Ron Arad, and it can at least serve as a small “bite” from his extraordinary work for those who either have not made it to Arad’s exhibition “No Discipline” in the Paris Centre Pompidou (ended on 16 March 2009) or would not make it to its modified version to be hold in the New York MOMA (2 August – 10 October 2009).
