Markus Huemer - Answers Don’t Fall from the Sky, Either | Prague - Centre for Contemporary Art DOX | 19/02 - 04/05/09
In his exhibition, the Austrian artist and now also Professor at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, Markus Huemer, explores the status of painting in the era of electronic images. Huemer works with both traditional and new media, combining painting and digital technologies in his own unique way. The art on display works with the subjects and motifs inhabiting the field of traditional painting as well as with the issue of validity of the modernist aesthetics. The artist gives his works rather subversive titles that parody the requirements and the ensuing expectations – for example, I Also Could Have Created a Painting with a Higher Artistic Value for You, Solely by Sense, I Could Have Had a Good Feeling from this Painting, or I Could Have also Made You a Painting of Real Museum Significance. The paintings are executed on the basis of digitally processed data. Markus Huemer was born in 1968 in the Austrian city of Linz and lives and works in Berlin.
