Self-Portrait in Czech Fine Arts of the 20th and 21st Centuries | Hradec Králové | 4 December – 8 March 2009 The Fine Arts Gallery in Hradec Králové currently presents a selection of self-portraits created by many significant personalities of the 20th- and 21st-century Czech fine arts. The exhibited works come, for example, from the oeuvre of Jan Preisler, Bohumil Kubišta, Josef Čapek, Václav Špála, Josef Váchal, Antonín Procházka, František Tichý, Mikuláš Medek, Vladimír Boudník, Milan Knížák, František Hodonský, Aleš Lamr, and Veronika Bromová. Seventy exhibited works introduce to a wide range of employed media and technologies, from the traditional ones to installation and video. The exhibition offers a unique chance to view the specific genre of self-portrait which, at least in part, exposes the artists’ self-reflection – the specific mixture of self-stylization, individuality and personal story. The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Aleš South-Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou.
