Residential artists in Futura The exhibition held in the Prague’s Futura gallery is the result of the 2008 artists’ residencies to this institution, presenting works by all participants. Exploring one’s own identity via traveling and learning about various cultures has been a matter-of-course and an expected move taken by artists for several centuries. In the era of multicultural societies, there are no conventional artistic centers which would direct and control artistic developments. The artistic process has changed and the significant role of leading personalities has been shifted to the background in the modern-day world. Many interesting works are created in marginal regions and their origin is closely tied with the given locality. Artists of the younger generation cherish travelling, getting familiar with various cultures and most varied attitudes to life and re-evaluate the generally anchored and accepted values. The desire of many artists to escape the reductive character of artistic gestures is emphasized by the contemporary tendency in contemporary art which tries to define itself against the society, searching for alternatives in foreign cultures and their customs. Exhibiting artists: Silvina Arismendi (UY),Vasil Artamonov & Alexey Klyuykov (CZ), Matei Bejenaru (RO), Ondřej Brody (CZ), Valentino Diego (IT), Tomáš Džadoň (SK), Amande In (FR), Eva Jiřička (CZ), Jaroslav Kyša (SK), Dominik Lang (CZ), Anna Orlikowska (PL), Tereza Severová (CZ), Julia Vécsei (HU), Liang Yue (CN).
