Sculptures in Liberec The company Spacium has been responsible for presenting and permanently situating contemporary sculptures in the streets of the city of Liberec. On the occasion of the Classical Skiing World Championship, which will be held in Liberec in February 2009, sculptures by five artists appeared in the streets of the city. The show at the same time commemorates the 40th anniversary of the event entitled “Sculpture and the City”, which was organized in Liberec in 1969. One of the most interesting presentations within the event is undoubtedly the installation created by Lubomír Typlt, entitled Tour de France and composed of barrels and bicycles, as well as the robust work The Contestants’ Arch by Laco Sorokáč. The exclusive item on display is a sculpture of the renowned German painter and sculptor, Mark Lüpertz, who has Liberec origins. Yet another participant worth mentioning is the successful Czech sculptor and painter from the former art group The Stubborn who let his bronze Small Martian land in the city. Other artists presented at the exhibition which should enliven the city during the championship, are the couple Alena Kupčíková and Michal Klega, Václav Fiala, Jan Morávek and Jan Rybák.
