Photographs by Martha Rosler The work of photographer Martha Rosler is first presented in the Czech Republic in the Prague Langhans Gallery. The North-American native Martha Rosler is not only a photographer, but also painter, activist, writer of essays and pedagogue who ranks to the feminist tendencies in contemporary art. Martha Rosler works in numerous media: film, video, slide-projections, installations and performances as well as politically-oriented actions. She is a respected writer of critical texts dealing with the issues of feminism, art and the role of culture in everyday life. The exhibition entitled “Passionate Signals” focuses on the artist’s oeuvre from the past forty years. The exhibited works can be defined as the most significant to her entire work. Her collages bespeak of Rosler’s interest in mainly political subjects, as is for example the case of the cycle “Passionate Signals” after which the exhibition received its title. On the occasion of the exhibition, the Langhans Gallery Prague publishes an English-Czech book Martha Rosler. The introduction was written by the exhibition’s curator, Zdenek Felix, the author of the exhaustive essay in the book is Martina Pachmanová.
