Physics and Art in the Vernon Gallery - Jonathan Feldschuha and Tamsin van Essen in Vernon | Prague - Vernon Gallery | 24/05 - 14/09/08
Physics and Art in the Vernon Gallery The Prague Vernon Gallery houses the group exhibition of works by American artist, Jonathan Feldschuh, and British artist, Tamsin van Essen, entitled “Attraction / Repulsion”. The two artists are scientists by education, and science is also their elementary inspiration. As the title of the exhibition suggests, the main subject discussed here is physics whose terms may evoke countless emotions. Jonathan Feldschuh in his paintings explores the environment of research focused on particle physics along with the processes of high-speed collisions of the infinitesimal particles of matter and the results of these collisions. Tamsin van Essen tries to capture, via the medium of ceramics, the intangible worlds of black holes and sub-atomic particles, and she is also interested in the stigmas linked with diseases including the infectious ones. Feldschuh (1964) exhibits his new cycle of paintings entitled “Large Hadron Collider – LHC”, called after the largest and most powerful particle accelerator in the world to date which is, at the moment, being completed by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (known as CERN) in the underground between France and Switzerland. Tamsin van Essen (1975) in her project for Vernon aims at artistic interpretation of worlds outside the visible spheres. Her works from the cycle “Heritage of Health” depart from the forms of pharmaceutical jars from the 17th and 18th centuries whose surfaces evoke various infectious diseases.
