Eva Kotatkova in the Vaclav Spala Gallery | Prague - Vaclav Spala Gallery | 26/06 - 24/08/08
The exhibition of Eva Koťátková Going to School was organized in the wake of the artist’s winning the Jindřich Chalupecký Award last year but is also part of her current diploma work at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The Václav Špála Gallery returns to the tradition of the award winners’ exhibitions which were regularly held in its premises in the 1990s. The gallery is linked with the name of art theorist Jindřich Chalupecký who ran it in the 1960s and organized major displays of contemporary art. Koťátková’s theme is all kinds of trauma related to school attendance. The exhibition shows, among others, a video in which she returns to her former school after years with her school bag and remains standing outside the closed door. Other videos show weird tools–aids used to educate children. There are also a number of brilliant drawings, a model of the school or bottles shaped as pupils.
