Are We of World Importance again? The international exhibition Expo ’58 in Bruxelles and the Czechoslovak participation at it has become legendary in our country. Most often, the eyewitnesses recollect the Laterna Magica, the beginnings of sci-fi design style and the subsequent upswing of plastic and organic forms. The generation of today’s quinquagenarians seems to be rather allergic to the so-called Bruxelles style since their modern parents used to design their entire homes after it. For younger generations, however, this style came into vogue again today and is again “trendy”. But who actually knows what exactly the Bruxelles style means? Even despite its long-term attractive force, the given phenomenon has not experienced proper and more noticeable attention from the professionals yet. The aim of the exhibition entitled “The Bruxelles Dream, Expo ’58” and conceived as multi-media presentation along with the comprehensive accompanying publication is to present and explain the real “looks” of Expo ’58 and to evaluate its significance from the point of arts, politics, culture and sociology. The exhibition, prepared on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bruxelles Expo, evokes the original form of the Czechoslovak pavilion via authentic artifacts, documents and photographs from that period.
