Jakub Hošek: Ian Curtis Wishlist | Ostrava | Industrial Gallery | 15/05 - 21/06/13
A painter, music producer, L'Enfant terrible, fashion icon – that is Jakub Hošek in a nutshell, a multilateral character of the contemporary art scene. His exhibition in the capital city of mining bears the name of Ian Curtis, the singer of the cult British post-punk band Joy Division that was formed in Manchester, an industrial city that is similar to Ostrava in many ways. The author himself describes his latest exhibition in the following way: /“Ian Curtis Wish List is a list of things, about which you are convinced that they should happen, but you know that they will never happen. You convulse in the conviction that they will happen. So the half of your body...and you feel like a total asshole...so the half of your body brings itself to thinking that something will happen and the other half beats itself, because the first half deceives itself. So the Ian Curtis Wish List are things that fall into this category. Too much emotional manipulation. Too much discomfort, a very unpleasant crescendo.”
