Evžen Šimera: The Spirit of Matter | Prague | Staroměstská radnice, Galerie hlavního města Prahy | 22/05 - 07/07/13
Over time the work of Evžen Šimera has dealt with experiments with color that intentionally build on the late modernist work of artists such as Jackson Pollock, Keneth Noland, Frank Stella and others. During his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague he thought up his own painting technique that follows in Pollock's splattering or dripping techinique. Under the title New Dripping he created several series of the so-called dripping pictures. At his exhibition in the Old Town Hall he again presents several new conceptual experiments with the medium of painting. As always he again tries to push the limits and borders of what can be done with “color on canvas” and “color in general”. Painting as alchemy – that is how we could sum up the new project by Evžen Šimera, which is at the same time the culmination of his postgraduate studies in the Supermedia Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
