Jan Merta: To My Praguers on the Sixtieth Birthday

Jan Merta has been a distinctive figure among Czech painters since the 1980s, yet he also makes sculptures and conceptual art. His works are in many important private and public collections. He has also been twice voted Figure of the Year (in a poll organized by GAVU Cheb, Art+Antiques, and artalk.cz) for important work in the fine arts.
The artist himself has called the exhibition ‘To the People of Prague’ to mark his approaching sixtieth birthday. The painter has prepared fourteen oils on canvas and one sculpture specially for the Gallery.
